Candidate Orientation


Candidate Orientation is a 10-12 week live-in programme designed as a mutual get-to-know you opportunity and more… It is made up of many components however “CO” is not primarily about information, input and training…

…It is about knowing and belonging. Do I fit into WEC?  How do I fit?

…It is about prayer and character.  Can I believe God?  Who am I in Him?

…It is about thinking through issues related to reaching people and planting churches; and about practical, hands-on exposure. How can I make a difference? What is the good news?

Lunch in the courtyardCandidate Orientation is a time of bonding with WEC, becoming a part of the WEC family.  During this time the Candidates learn the WEC ethos of living by faith, prayer, holiness, willingness to sacrifice, simple living and maintaining fellowship in a communal setting.

Before coming to “CO” most candidates have spent some time at a Bible College.  WEC encourages lifelong learning and things covered in “CO” are practical, ‘just in time’ learning for the next step of moving overseas.

Our “CO” is significantly longer than any other mission agency orientation; this is because we really want to develop a sense of belonging and cultivate depth in relationships.  We believe it also enhances our workers’ capacity to contribute well and thrive over the long haul.

“CO” gives candidates space and opportunity to affirm their call, shape their vision and come to grips with some of the realities of life and ministry in cross-cultural mission.  It includes a host of topics and workshops to add essential skills to their “toolbox”.  For e.g.:
Church planting process and practicalities;  Working effectively in multicultural teams; Interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;   Singleness, sexual purity and marriage enrichment;   Storytelling, spiritual warfare realities, and much more.

Additionally our candidate orientation provides both sides with the opportunity to be really sure that this is a relationship that will work.  WEC observes the candidate and the candidate observes WEC.  At the completion of CO, both WEC and the candidate should know that they are a good fit for each other.
